About Geoffrey Redmond


Geoffrey Redmond, MD is the Director of The Hormone Center of New York, where he specializes in treating female hormone problems. Some of the problems for which women seek his help include polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), alopecia (scalp hair loss), and persistent acne, as well as premenstrual syndrome (PMS); menstrual irregularity and heavy bleeding, increased hair growth; difficult menopause transitions; sexual dysfunction; thyroid disorders; difficultly controlling weight, and problems of adolescent development.

Geoffrey Redmond, MD has also helped thousands of women treat and control hormonal disorders through his writing, lectures, and medical research.

Writing
As an endocrinologist, Geoffrey Redmond has committed himself to education of both medical practitioners and the general public as a writer and editor. He is the editor of two medical texts, Lipids and Women’s Health (1990) and Androgenic Disorders (1995) and has also written two books for lay people: The Good News About Women’s Hormones (1995), and, most recently, It’s Your Hormones, (2005), a complete guide to women’s hormone problems. Geoffrey Redmond has also spent time as a contributing editor and columnist for International Hair Route Magazine.

Lectures
After completing his postgraduate training, Geoffrey Redmond began lecturing as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Pediatrics at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He later went on to lecture for the American Electrology Association, the largest international nonprofit membership organization for permanent hair removal professionals. He has also lectured at programs sponsored by the NIH, the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, as well as at many other venues in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Medical Research
Geoffrey Redmond remains committed to pioneering clinical research in female endocrinology. His research has most recently addressed hirsutism, treatment of PCOS, insulin sensitizers, and treatment of acne with oral contraceptives. Additionally, Geoffrey Redmond served as Lead Investigator for a study leading to the approval of the birth control pill (OrthoTri-Cyclen®; norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol) as a treatment for moderate acne. Over the course of his career, he has been Principal Investigator for more than 40 studies.
